Tech help for an older parent’s Mac or PC
When a parent calls about the printer, the Wi-Fi or a scary pop-up, you can’t see what they see. Put AI Repair on their computer once. They type what’s wrong in their own words, and it finds the cause, explains it in plain words and fixes it with repairs we tested.
What they’ll see
- They type the problem, like “the printer won’t print” or “my Mac is slow”, or choose “Check my whole Mac”.
- AI Repair looks, and says what it found in a sentence or two.
- When a change is needed, a card says what it will do, with Fix it and Not now.
- When something has to be done by hand, like pairing headphones, it shows the steps.
Safe for someone who isn’t technical
- It only uses repairs we wrote and tested, and runs nothing else.
- A change waits for their OK, unless that kind of fix is set to Auto. Risky fixes always ask.
- It helps stop the fake virus warnings websites send, the kind that tell people to call a number. Our guide explains how these warnings work.
- Before anything leaves the computer, names such as theirs and the computer’s are replaced with aliases. What leaves the computer
Setting it up for them
- Download AI Repair on their computer and open it.
- Sign in with their Apple, Google or Microsoft account, or with a code sent to their email. There is no password to remember.
- When AI Repair asks, allow its helper once: some fixes need it. On macOS 12 the helper isn’t available, and AI Repair shows those fixes as steps.
- Try “Check my whole Mac” together, so they see how it works.
Which plan
The Free plan gives one fix a month on one computer. The Family plan gives 100 fixes a month on up to 10 computers, on one account, so your computer and theirs can share it. Asking and checking never use a fix, and if a change goes ahead but the problem isn’t fixed, the fix comes back.
What it doesn’t do
- It can’t mend broken hardware, like a cracked screen or a worn-out battery.
- It works on the computer it’s installed on: you can’t use it to fix their computer from yours.
- It runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 12 or later, and on PCs with Windows 10 or 11.
Common questions
Is AI Repair good for older people who aren’t confident with computers?
That’s who it’s made for. They don’t need to know where a setting is or what it’s called: they say what’s wrong in their own words, and AI Repair answers in plain words. A change waits for their OK unless that kind of fix is set to Auto.
Can my parents and I share one plan?
Yes. The Family plan is one account for up to 10 computers, with 100 fixes a month between them. Sign in to the same account on their computer and on yours.
What happens when AI Repair can’t fix the problem?
It says what it found, and when something has to be done by hand, it shows the steps. If a change went ahead but the problem isn’t fixed, the fix is given back. For anything else, write to [email protected].
